  1. You could sew it to a mounting board that is slightly smaller than the piece itself, and then float it in front of another larger mounting board so it looks like it floats inside the frame.

    1. Thanks, Doug. My pieces are 3/4″ thick, so they tend to protrude enough without floating them. My question is how to keep the mounting board at the back of the frame without glass or a mat board in front to hold spacers. I don’t want the piece to stick out past the frame, but to “sit” inside it and maybe be flush at the front. Thoughts right now are to sew through the mounting board and the back board of the frame, which I can secure at the back as if mounting a canvas. Preparing for success or failure with this as I wait for some frames to arrive this week.
